If you enjoyed the August presentation which covered DevOps, you won't want to miss this one!

The discussion will be based in large part upon a book by Jeff Patton on Story Mapping.   The speaker, Bud Relihan, a local PMI chapter member, has used Story Mapping in several projects and will discuss his first hand experience with this technique in the context of Agile projects where he often finds that while we build the product right, we often fail to the build the right product.

Story mapping is a foundation for several other techniques that are leveraged in system and design thinking workshops.   The discussion will expose how story mapping fills the gap between strategic business value creation and details of user story execution at the team level.  Story Mapping is a general technique the once learned can be tailored to fit many applications.   

During the second half of the dinner meeting, Bud will facilitate small group exercises wherein each team will iterate versions of their own story maps.   This learn by doing group activity will equip participants with begin using this technique.   

This promises to be a lively and engaging evening of discussion, learning, and experimentation.

About the Speaker: 

Walter "Bud" Relihan, PMP, CSM, SA is a member of the North Florida Chapter of the Project Management Institute and formerly served as Vice President of Educational Programs and launched the still running PMP study group.   For more than a decade, he worked as a Project Manager at IBM in various positions including the PMCOE.  In 2010, Bud changed direction, and became an Agile Expert creating course material, and publishing on contracting for agile.  While working on a transformation project for Customs and Border Protection, he earned a Masters in Information Technology with a concentration in healthcare; there he gained a keen appreciation for User Experience and User Centered Design.  Subsequently he supported the Dept of Veterans Affairs in development of a custom Electronic Health Records system as Product Owner responsible for accessibility, patient safety, and Human Factors Engineering.  He is currently supporting one of the world's largest banks as a Release Train Engineer.
