November Meeting Recap
His storytelling of the incident in 1988 was gripping. He had us laughing, crying and enthralled. So how does all of this relate to managing projects? Remember these 2 items; it is always about your people. And performance is about your people. With these guidelines then you should succeed and your team will as well. Never give up on anyone’s intellect, capability or desire. Your job as a leader is to put people in position to succeed.
In addition, kudos to Anthony Bush for attending and reaching out to the military attendees to let them know about the O2O (Onward to Opportunity). PMI’s recent acquisition, Disciplined Agile, is creating quite a buzz in the project management community. There is an opportunity for chapters to take part in the excitement by sharing information and development opportunities to their members and local PM community. Chapter boards are invited to designate one person from their chapter to be part of the DA Champion program. The DA Chapter Champion Program is an opportunity for chapters to get engaged with DA to bring DA resources to their communities. DA will assist chapters with planning webinars, communications, and promotions. In turn, PMI will promote DA classes, and offer giveaways and promotions. The Northeast Florida Chapter is looking to recruit a member with a passion for Agile to become our Disciplined Agile Champion. Wow! What an understatement for the November dinner meeting. We had the honor of having Capt. Paul Rinn USN (Ret) as our guest speaker. His credentials are too numerous to list here. He has many purple hearts and bronze stars. He was the first commanding officer of the USS Samuel B. Roberts (FFG-58) and was in command when the ship struck a mine in the Persian Gulf on April 14, 1988.
He shared with us in what I will call the upbringing of a very young sailor. Without him Capt. Rinn would not be here along with the other 200 young men on board the ship that day in 1988. “No higher honor” was the ship’s motto and one that was repeated that day and the title of a book. Again, thank you Capt. Rinn and to all of your men. To learn more and see who the “hero” was that day, 
The local chapter Monday night also recognized all of the military (active, retired, and spouse) for their years of service. The audience received some goodies, standing ovations, and we learned about their branch and time served. The entire night was very humbling experience! Thank you from all of us here to all of you that have served and protected our country.
The last meeting of the year Monday, December 9, also promises to be extra special. Please join us! We do hope to see you there!
Opportunity for Chapters to Establish DA Champions
Elections will be January 2020 for 2-year terms to begin April 1, 2020. We are seeking three new members. The specific roles will be decided during the 2020 strategic planning meeting.
